Systems Engineer - Safety Engineer
Position Details
- Identify system and operational safety hazards
- Analyze hazards using techniques such as fault trees, event trees, reliability analyses, and FMEA
- Prepare qualitative and quantitative safety risk assessments
- Analyze historical accident and prototype system failure data to support risk assessments
- Identify existing and recommended hazard controls and other system safety requirements needed to reduce safety risk
- Develop models and simulations as needed to validate system safety requirements
- Prepare safety hazard analysis reports
- Evaluate vendor system design concepts for additional safety hazards and incorporation of safety hazard controls
- Evaluate vendor test plans and procedures and recommend test approaches and tools to ensure that system safety requirements are sufficiently verified
- Identify requirements for long-term monitoring and tracking of safety hazards throughout the system life cycle
Requirements
- 10+ years experiences in system safety engineering
- M.S. in Safety Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Engineering Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Computational Sciences, or related discipline
- Strong background in probability and statistics
Desired Qualifications
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals or Professional Engineer (P.E.) License
- Familiarity with RTCA DO-178B Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification and DO-278 Guidelines for Communication, Navigation, Surveillance, and Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) Systems Software Integrity Assurance
- Familiarity with air traffic control systems, aircraft avionics systems, and GPS
- Experience using Isograph’s Fault Tree Plus
- Familiarity with FAA’s Safety Management System
